Scientific Researcher First Degree PhD. Ion-Sorin ZGURĂ
Dr. Ion-Sorin Zgură is a senior researcher at the Institute of Space Science (ISS), Romania. His professional background combines high-energy physics, space science, advanced computing, quantum technologies, artificial intelligence, and scientific research management.
His research activity includes particle physics, experimental data analysis, high-performance computing, and the processing of large and complex scientific datasets. He has contributed to international research collaborations and scientific publications in high-energy physics, space science, and advanced technologies. In recent years, his work has increasingly focused on the convergence of artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, cybersecurity, knowledge-based systems, and advanced digital infrastructures.
A distinctive feature of his activity is its multidisciplinary character, connecting fundamental physics with emerging technologies and practical digital applications. His current interests include Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), AI agents and multi-agent systems, multimodal AI, scientific knowledge platforms, quantum communications, quantum random number generation, and secure digital infrastructures. These activities also explore how technologies originally developed for scientific research can be transferred to areas such as cybersecurity, education, decision support, and forensic science.
Dr. Zgură served as Director of the Institute of Space Science from 2011 to 2023, combining scientific research with long-term institutional and research-management responsibilities. He is a Corresponding Member of the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA) and has been involved in national and European research initiatives in space science, quantum technologies, and advanced digital systems.
He currently contributes to the development of Romania’s National Quantum Communication Infrastructure (RoNaQCI) and to research activities at the intersection of quantum communication, secure connectivity, artificial intelligence, and advanced computing.
