Professor PhD. Ovidiu PREDESCU
Professor Dr. Ovidiu Predescu is the secretary general of the Romanian Academy of Legal Sciences and first vice-president of the Romanian Jurists Union, he has published 36 books in the field of law, especially criminal law, criminal procedure and human rights (treaties, monographs, courses), as well as 14 fiction books, musings and essays both in Romanian, French, English, Italian and Bulgarian. He has also published more than 250 articles and studies in established law journals and well-known general culture journals.
He is a professor at the Faculty of Law, Ecological University of Bucharest. He is an doctor honoris causa of the "Dunărea de Jos" University in Galaţi, of the "Ştefan cel Mare" University from Suceava, of the University of Oradea and of the "Aurel Vlaicu" University in Arad. Likewise, he is an honorary scientific researcher at the Legal Research Institute "Acad. Andrei Rădulescu" of the Romanian Academy and member of the Diplomatic Academy in London.
Over time, he was chief prosecutor, advisor to the general prosecutor of the Prosecutor's Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice, secretary general of the municipality of Bucharest, lawyer, etc.
In legal publishing: Founding Director of "Dreptul" publications; Director of the "Universul Juridic" journal; former editor-in-chief of the "Journal of criminal law" edited by the Romanian Association of Criminal Sciences (2010-2012).
Throughout his career, he received 26 awards and distinctions, such as: the "Nicolae Titulescu" Award of the Romanian Academy, December 18, 2008, for the monograph The European Convention on Human Rights and Romanian Criminal Law; The "Simion Bărnuţiu" Award of the Romanian Academy for the treaty European Protection of Human Rights and the Romanian Criminal Process, 2010; the Vintilă Dongoroz and Ioan Tanoviceanu awards from the Romanian Jurists Union.
